A Happy Accident

Janiece Woodland

I was throwing a few serving bowls using my new favorite black clay and during the process of rounding out the center of one of the bowls, the walls started to collapse down around the base. Given how expensive this clay is, I am not about to lose any of it, so I just worked with what the clay gods gave me. I dropped the walls, flattened the bottom, curved the wall so that it was flared and then, I put a spiral in the bottom of the bowl for fun. I glazed it the same way I was glazing the other serving bowls.

I got it back yesterday and OMG! It is one of the most beautiful pieces I have ever made. Truly a very happy accident and now one that I need to replicate!
